How to bring back the SASS into your hair!! by Sair May

So your hair is looking dull, flat and lifeless and because of this....so do you.
This is an awful feeling. Everybody gets to this point at some time or another with their hair. I got into hairdressing because I always had trouble with my hair and when I found out the different things I could do to help my own hair, I wanted to do the same for others. So here is is.... 4 things you can try today to bring the SASS back into your hair.

S- Shorter hairstyle. Sometimes your hair could just be a little too long. even if you want to keep your length, some shorter layers can work wonders. Face shape is definitely something to consider too. Sometimes a shorter style is going to compliment your features so much so that it takes 10 years off. Short styles can look super sassy too.

A- Amazing hair stylist. You will need this. When your thinking of a new style or a revamp and you want to bring the SASS back, you will need to do your research and find a stylist on your level. Someone who has had raving reviews, word of mouth is excellent and then meet up with them for a consultation before you actually book in for your new do. That way you can feel like you are both on the same page and the stylist can help suggest things that will help your hair and that they think might suit. Sometimes this can change your mind on what you were originally thinking of because of many factors but sometimes what you are wanting mightn't work for your hair type or it might be that the results will take a lot longer than what you were expecting. So research everything before jumping into a new style or stylist or both.

S- Straightener. Make sure you have invested in a great straightener. The reason I say the word 'invest' is because you really do get what you pay for when it comes to straighteners. If you skimp out in this section of your hair regime, you will certainly see it and feel it. A good one will generally cost you upward of $300 but they all come with warranty's and are of the best quality. They are usually designed to slide through the hair easily and are much better on the hairs condition so you won't get that straightener burn on the ends of your hair. If your straightener is more than three years old, have plates that are a bit scratched or the cords fraying then its time to get a new one. You will thank me for it when your hair is looking absolutely SASSY!

S- Styling products. why do you think 99.9% of clients say ' I can never get my hair to sit the same as at the hairdressers?' One of the reasons why they say this is because their either don't have the right products or they are using the products in the wrong ways. Go to your bathroom cupboard, grab out every single hair product you own. Check the expiry date on each of them and if any are expired- throw them out. Then with whats left, read all the directions to see how it is meant to be used. Some might be heat activated. Some may be used only in wet hair, some may be used for wet or dry etc. If the directions are not very precise- google it!
Then find out from your hairdresser where the gaps in your hair regime are. You might have curly hair that you straighten all the time but only have products for curly hair or you might have 1000 different gels and waxes but none of them are actually suited to your hair.

I hope this will help you find your hair SASS again!
Bye for now....Sair xx

8 Top Tips for Shit HOT Wedding Hair! by Sair May

   1. Do some extensive research. I know this one is obvious but from experience many brides dont have a clear vision of what they want. This is because there are so many ideas and options floating around on the internet these days that it starts to get confusing and overwhelming. So, save some pins on Pinterest, look up styles from celebrities & also ask your stylist for work they have done but the aim is to get really clear on what you want.
This will stop a lot of unnecessary heartache. Know your style. What look are you really working towards and let your stylist know every detail. Bring a maximum 3 photos of hairstyles with you. They can be of different styles but you just dont want a barrage of different photos and styles in 1000 different photos. Usually your stylist will have their own unique style and ideas for you aswell  & its great to combine your ideas, your photos & you stylists suggestions. This way you will have your own individual updo designed especially for you. Do bring a photo of your dress and colours of bridesmaids dresses and ideas for their hair. This will help your stylist get in tune with the overall theme your going for.

2. One month before your wedding day, book into your preferred  stylist for a trial run. Bring your photos and freshly shampoo your hair the night before. Make sure you have all accessories there to show your stylist and your veil so you can discuss placement. If you are not happy with something please - speak up!!!  At the end of the day, its your hair and your day and your stylist only wants the best for you. So please don't think you will offend us because you are actually helping us achieve the style by speaking up.
It would be a great idea to have your makeup trial the same day and then go and try on your dress for an overall feel. Again, if you get home and you are not feeling it- tell us! The reason we do the trial a month before is so there is still time to do another trial if needed.

3. Once you have had your trial and your lovin' it, you can then talk about colour. This is done preferably the same day as the trial so book in a little more time. This is great because you can then look at the style and really think about placement of colour and what would look amazing. Don't go for any major colour changes this close to your wedding. If you are planning on being a blonde but you are brunette-book this in 6-12 months in advance. If not and your just looking to freshen your colour up, book your colour in the week before.

4.Along with your colour, your stylist may suggest a moisture treatment to really get the ends nice and smooth and get your hair into the best shape of its life. If your hair is particularly dry, damaged or brittle, it might be suggested for you to have a course of treatments leading up to the wedding. This may be for a few months so get researching on a stylist if you haven't already snagged yourself one.

5. Have a tiny micro trim. This won't mean you will lose much length, it will just help with your style sitting its best. Ask to have your split ends trimmed but use the term micro trim and book in with a stylist you trust. After the wedding you can then get more off or change your style completely- totally up to you.

6. Make sure you shampoo your hair the night before. Shampoo twice and really make sure you get all product and build up out of all of your scalp not just the top. Make sure you get into the back aswell.
When conditioning, make sure it is only the mid lengths and ends. If you put it near your scalp it will end up being too oily the next day and you won't get the longevity & height you want for your amazing style.
Limit products after you shampoo your hair. Maybe a moisturiser and a heat spray- that is it. Moisturiser just on the mid lengths and ends and heat spray before you dry.

7. Part your hair where you would like your hair to be parted for your wedding hair. This is done while wet and you could either let it dry naturally into that part if you are wanting to use some of your natural wave/curl if you have curly hair or if not blow-dry your hair to this part. This will really make your style sit so much better than trying to get it to sit into a part when it has dried differently. If you want your hair to come straight back off your face, then let it dry that way.
If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself, book into your stylist the day before and treat yourself to a shampoo/blow dry with them. This is a double whammy as you get pampered you can go over your style one more time with your stylist. That way your mind is at ease, your stylist knows exactly where your at and your hair is now prepped and ready for the big day. In my salon we offer this as a complimentary service as a wedding pressie so ask your salon if they do any little extras for the bride or wedding party because I dare say most would.

8. This is the main one!!  Dont stress!! A stressed out bride is an unhappy bride and we don't want that!!. Enjoy the pampering and enjoy this wonderful time - dont sweat the small stuff. Your going to be an amazing, shithot bride!

10 Tips to get your hair looking AMAZEBALLS! by Sair May

A kickass day to you guys!

Im so excited to be sharing my industry knowledge with you. These are just everyday tips and tricks that will help to keep your hair looking AMAZEBALLS throughout the year. Hope you enjoy..

1.MOISTURISE, MOISTURISE, MOISTURISE! Always apply a leave in moisturiser everyday (pic below of JUUCE solar ends)  Especially before swimming- this helps to keep colour in and to protect your hair from drying.  After swimming, always shampoo out any chlorine straight away if you can. The longer it is in your hair the more dry it can become.

2. NO DIY! Don't over process your hair. Always get a trained professional to colour and cut your hair. No champagne fuelled nights with your bestie and decide your both going to cut bangs! Don't try to save a buck by doing it yourself. Your not going to save anything that way. Your going to make more mess than what its worth.

3.  PROTECT FROM HEAT! When styling with heat, always use a heat protectant. This will really help with dryness and with split ends. Just apply a cream when wet that has heat protectant qualities before you blow-dry and then a spray when dry before straightening and curling. Apply to each section you do.

4. CHANGE IT UP! Review your shampoo and conditoner- in summer you may need more colour protectant qualities and more moisture. Its a great idea to change up your products every few months. For a couple of reasons...
 * Keeps it interesting for you
* Your hair gets used to the shampoo and conditioner and doesn't feel the same.
* Throughout the year and your seasonal colour changes, your hair will require a different prescription.

5. LOOK AFTER UR COLOUR! Instant colour saver treatment. They are a leavein, once a week treatment that are quick, easy and effective. You can have them in salon or take home. They protect from colour fading and they seal the hair making it feel and look smoother & healthier.

6. WET BRUSH! Use a wet brush. These are the best thing since sliced bread. They don't pull your hair, they detangle & are so easy, even my 3 year old will let me brush her hair with this- thats saying something. Most of the time, if your brushing your hair when wet, you are creating split ends. This is from the excessive pulling and stretching of the wet hair. I just leave mine in the shower & comb through the conditioner with it. Alternatively, you can comb your hair with the wet brush after getting out and towel drying.  (Link Below)

7. REGULAR PRUNING!  Just like your plants, your hair needs to be trimmed up to make sure it looks in tip top shape. Every 6 weeks at least. This is around 8 times a year. I have many a client trying to grow their hair long & luchious, so they avoid me for several months lol
Unfortunately, this doesn't help your hair to grow long & luchious, this does the exact opposite. The split ends don't get trimmed therefore they split more and more until they are all the way up on the hair shaft. When this happens, not only will you have frizzy, dry, fly-away hair, it will also have to have quite a bit taken off of it when you do finally make a hair appointment.
Split ends can be tamed but can't be fixed. once they are there, you will have to cut them to get rid of them.
This will be avoided if you just regularly come in- we won't bite!! well not too hard anyway. The secret to not having the dreaded hair fuck up is to really do your research.
Find out what the stylists work is like, is it your style? if not, find one that has the same taste and style. Have a consult with them first before you commit to an appointment. Get on the same page as each other.

8. TREAT YO' HAIR! While your at it, book in for a in house treatment before your trim/stylecut. Not only is it amazing, relaxing and good for your health and your hair, it also helps your stylist to cut & style your hair better as well.

9. GO WITHOUT HEAT! I can hear your screams from here! Seriously thou, go without the blowdrying and straightening. even if its just a week or so. It will make a difference to the condition of your hair. I did this recently but not by choice. I had a baby and had no time or energy to bother with hair- it was the last thing on my mind.
The funny thing was that my hair started to feel fantastic and my curls started to come back. This was after a week of no styling just air drying. So, I do encourage you to go without heat just for a week. Don't go without product thou while your doing no heat... that would be a hair nightmare.

10. INVISIBOBBLE! What the hell is that. you say? They are a spiral, clear hair tie.  They don't put as much pressure on the hair so that it doesn't indent the hair. They are easy to get out too. Great for your kids hair also. (Link Below)

Other things to consider are w
hen pulling your hair back into a pony, your hair can also become split if it gets tied up wet or if you use a band that is too tight- never use rubber bands.

You could also try using a silk pillow case and sleep with you hair in a braid. This stops split ends also and keeps your style in longer as it doesn't knot your hair while you sleep.

Hope these little tips and tricks will help you on your hair journey.
